ARIP Workshop Shapes Future of African-Led Research Collaboration

Accra workshop delegates March 2026

The Africa Research and Innovation Partnerships (ARIP) network has taken a significant step forward following the successful Resource Mapping Validation and Strategic Engagement Workshop held in Accra, Ghana, on 4-5 March 2026. Bringing together researchers, innovation leaders and institutional representatives from across Africa and Europe, the workshop focused on strengthening collaboration, sharing knowledge and defining a clear strategic direction for the network.

A key objective of the workshop was to validate the findings of ARIP’s resource mapping exercise, which identified the expertise, infrastructure, partnerships and capabilities available across member institutions. Participants used these insights to explore opportunities for greater collaboration, address gaps in capacity and visibility, and develop mechanisms for more effective knowledge exchange across the network.

The discussions resulted in agreement on four priority thematic areas for future collaboration: Circular Economy, Health and Environment, Agriculture and Food Systems, and Energy. Participants also emphasised the importance of cross-cutting themes including gender and inclusion, youth participation, indigenous knowledge systems and community engagement.

The workshop further established a roadmap for ARIP’s future development, including plans to strengthen governance, expand funding opportunities, create a dynamic online knowledge hub, and enhance engagement with policymakers and industry partners. ARIP will continue to position itself as an African-led, interdisciplinary research consortium dedicated to translating research into real-world impact.

The Accra workshop demonstrated the value of knowledge exchange in connecting expertise across institutions and regions, laying the foundations for a more coordinated and impactful research and innovation community across Africa.
